In glacial heights of the Himalayas, where the winter is very cold and the resources are not sufficient, a silent revolution is taking place. Himalayan Rocket Stove established in 2017  is more than a company that aims to change the heating and cooking methods of mountain communities, making them cleaner and more efficient. HRS is dealing most vividly with the problems causing deforestation, indoor smoky health hazards, and the day-to-day drudgery of collecting fuel by direct confrontation.

The Fire That Started It All

The idea of HRS was born with the lived experiences of Russell Collins, an Australian traveler who spent many years in the Himalayan region. Years of witnessing the harsh impacts of traditional wood-burning bukharis, thick smoke filling homes, excessive firewood use, and black carbon pollution ignited his drive for change. Inspired by local innovators and early rocket stove concepts, Russell iterated through prototypes, overcoming failures to create a tailored solution for high-altitude living.

Currently, HRS operates across the major markets of Arunachal Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Madhya Pradesh, Sikkim, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Nepal, and Bhutan.

The focus of expansion is Northeast India, Chile, Mongolia, Tibet, and even the USA; the potential is vast.

HRS Solutions For Himalayan Key Challenges

HRS is designed using the latest technology that burns cleanly and efficiently. These stoves preheat air for complete smoke burn-off, using a vortex riser tube to combust gases efficiently. The result? Ensures complete combustion efficiency, minimum smoke emissions (low CO, NO, and NOx), and reduction to 50% cutting of wood, all backed up by independent tests from NEERI and Shivalik Solid Waste Management.

Designed to tackle key Himalayan challenges, HRS stoves:

  • Reduce deforestation, indoor pollution, and women’s drudgery.
  • The homes will receive consistent and powerful heat.
  • Comes with a warranty for 3 years, and the stove is patented with its features of durability and innovation.

The Products We Offer:

Looking Ahead: Scaling for Greater Good

HRS is ready to grow and is planning to bring clean-heating solutions across the northern part of the world. The problems of cost and terrain are being tackled with existing and new technologies like pellet feeders and community stations. With the proven positive impact of past projects (60,000 tCO₂e savings and 60,000 tonnes of wood saved), HRS is looking for investments, partnerships, subsidies, and R&D support to reach low-income households.
